sandy - if you were a dog/cat I would suggest that you tried Glucosamine. It is not a painkiller - not sure how it works but my vet recommended it to my for my last dog who has arthritis.

If it's a longer term issue then be careful with taking a higher dose regularly, I've had to stop taking it completely as my GP thinks that my kidneys are sensitive to it and it looks like it may have caused drops in my kidney function. Not good news for someone with inflammatory conditions.

Might be worth mentioning it to your GP if it's something you might be taking a lot of regularly. Not sure whether it's a common side effect, sure Sqad knows more about that as don't want to be alarmist.
