Antibiotics will not relieve your pain, only the drainage of infection if present and release of pressure will have any effect on your pain.
Depends what type you have. When I had this problem the pain eased off within 15 minutes.

Amoxicillin 500mg and taking co codamol and ibroufen for the pain, but they dont seem to be touching it, now pain is travelling to my jaw throat, and ear
Ah. I was on Flagyl. Very powerful stuff. As I say, the throbbing started to ease off within 15 minutes of taking the first one and I was pain-free the next day. The only downside with it was strictly no alcohol or you would live to regret it. Mind you, this was 30 years ago so I don't know what the treatment is now.
I've had many abscesses, the antibiotics should start to ease the infection and throbbing within 24 to 36 hours. As well as painkillers I find clove oil helps a lot.
You poor soul. Have a mouthful of whiskey or sherry and hold it over the tooth.
It numbs it a little. If persists, swallow, repeat.

Yes I have been using the clove oil as well, dispite the horrible taste, nothing seems to be helping at the moment, I've noticed the actual tooth seems loose.
Yes poor you and agree holding alcohol and swallowing it helps numb it a bit. I favoured Baileys although I don't usually drink it. Also a hot water bottle, although probably not medically helpful, held to the face certainly made the pain more bearable.
Over Easter hols I suffered from little cuts in the gums where wires of titanium teeth cut in.

Neighbour told me about Tea Tree oil (antiseptic) - bought it in Holls & Barrs and it fairly helped me.
