Bras

I'm aware that as one ages it would seem that bras become increasingly uncomfortable for many women.

I am curious as to why though, the obvious conclusion is that it is menopause related, but is it the right conclusion?

Any thoughts, experiences etc?

My experience is that shape changes and changes and changes and its hard to keep up....also many of us get to that lovely moment where you just don’t give a damn!

I suspect that it's as Woofgang says, that it's a lot to do with changing shape, and things tending to, er, go south. But it might also be connected with body temperature changes, and tight clothing feeling uncomfortable when your core body temperature rises. Interesting question, though!

Trouble is a bra is needed at certain times either to make clothes fit and look better, or to avoid an embarrassing situation.
Hate them.

I was going to say that things go a bit saggy, but saw that Kiki had put it better. I haven't got to the stage yet where I whip it off as soon as I'm home for the evening, but that might happen sometime I suppose.

After many years of wearing the same size bra I went to get measured properly. Well..............seems I have been wearing the wrong size for some time. Cup size had changed and when I bought some new ones they were much more comfortable. Lady in M&S advised me to always try on bras before buying as even a shop like M&S uses different suppliers and sizes may vary despite what the label says.

I've never been sure of my actual size. I've always worn a 32b as an adult, but decided to check following the instructions they print in catalogues. According to them I'm a 36a, but I don't like that so I'm still with the 32Bs.

Interesting question. I agree that bra's are needed for decorum purposes. But now in my 50's I have become increasingly uncomfortable to the point where I cannot wait to get home to take the bra off. I go and get measured periodically (approx 4 times in the last 10 years) and I am now told that I have what I considered to be blinking big bazookas. Bought the bra accordingly and am now a bit more comfy. So I think I have changed and changed as Woofgang says.

I have gone up and down in sizes and as I am well endowed tend to use the likes of Rigby and Peller to hold me up. Despite using good fitters I have found that bras have become more uncomfortable over time.

I am a very early menopausal woman and do wonder if a change in hormones is part of my discomfort.

Is it more well endowed ladies who have more trouble with discomfort? Ive never been big... I've ranged from 34A when young to 36B in the years after I became a mother. At 68,I'm a 34B now,and rarely feel uncomfortable. I buy M&S bras as I know they suit me.

As an outsider on this, the body changes with age and all the rest, surely being measured for proper bra sizes is the thing to do, most women usually being 2 inches short under the breast and a cup-size or two short of what they should be.

I'm the same as pasta and have never really changed from 36B but notice a lot of the women I work with have got a lot bigger breasted as they've got older. I also wear M&S underwired no padding and never feel uncomfortable, the only bras that irritate me are the padded push up type. They're so stiff these days.

I have noticed that the straps all off my shoulders. It drives me mad. I don`t think they make bras like they used to.

I loathe the moulded bras on sale, they seem to create a most peculiar shape - for me anyway.

So to summarise...when women don't need bras they wear them and when they do need to wear them they don't.

I`m not sure that getting properly measured makes much difference. My friend was mis measured by Rigby and Peller. I have been "prescribed" everything from 34C, 36B to 38B. I just go by what feels comfortable.
