Following on from my partial salpingectomy on Wednesday, I went to the loo today for the first time since getting back from Croatia last Tuesday. However I still feel bloated and full of gas.

I understand that they had to fill my bladder, etc full of gas while I was under to facilitate the procedure (and the resulting shoulder pain after coming round was indescribable), but how long will this bloating last and will Buscopan or peppermint water alleviate this?

Thanks.

I presume that this was done Laparoscopically and in which case the gas and bloating is coming from air in the peritoneal cavity and not the bladder.
Very painful I understand and I really can't see how Buscopan will help as that drug relieves bowel muscle spasm which is not causing the pain in your case. You could try sitting up and massaging your stomach or maybe I might drop in and massage it for you;-)

I can't say how long it will last, but ai would be worried if it lasted longer than 3 weeks.
I would have thought that Ibuprofen 400mgms every 4 hours if necessary would be better analgesia than Buscopan or peppermint.

Hi Sqad. Yes it was done laparoscopically. Other than painful gas and bloating I am managing without painkillers and I'm very pleased with my progress.

It was one of the Ward sisters who made mention of peppermint / Buscopan.

Thanks for your reply. I was discharged with Diclofenac and Paracetamol and I have some Cocodamol floating around somewhere.
For me the bloating lasted about 4 to 5 days. It was different procedure to yours though.

Hope you're doing okay xx

When I came out of hospital I couldn't do my jeans up :(

I was cramping again this morning (bowel cramps) and I took two Buscopan which gave me almost immediately relief.

Emotionally yesterday was my worst day and M found it difficult too as we went out to dinner and his dad and brother were both celebrating Father's Day and he should have been celebrating too. xx
