My friend is in a sex-only relationship with his friend. She is in love with him and he loves her but is not in love with her. He hopes that in time he will fall in live with her. They've had the arrangement for 4 years. Do you think that this is possible?

Oh dear I'm afraid he will never 'fall in love' with her as he puts it. He is stringing her along for sex with no ties for as long as possible. Can't you see that?
If they are both happy, why not?
However, I think women tend to get a bit more emotional about this type of situation. I don't see it ending well, tbh. But your friend is the male here.
I don't know how anyone can "hope to fall in love" with someone. You either do or you don't.

So long as he's getting what he wants, no chance!
Yes love can grow but 4 years is a long time, if it has not happened yet then is it going to?

As for the above comment, ignore him, it the arrangement is clear then no one is stringing anyone along.
Whilst it can. If it hasn't, or maybe if he doesn't realise that it has, in four years then no point holding one's breath. Either accept what already is or make the break, stop frittering away even more time, and go find a partner that reciprocates.
Whilst it can, if it hasn't, ....
Like I flaming well typed !
IF both of them are happy with the arrangement continue .
I think if he was going to fall in love it would have happened by now. If the lady is happy with things as they are that's fine, but I think she is going to get hurt sooner or later. A sex only relationship doesn't sound like the sort of relationship she wants in the longer term.

This particular man does not want to be settled or tied down yet- so he is playing the field, I suppose, but the ladies in question all want to get married and have babies as soon as possible. I'm wondering whether this is a universal problem; man wants sex, so he has sex with lady, who wants babies but he doesn't want to commit, so she has sex in the hope it leads to babies, but he is just having the sex as it's sex. Lady gets hurt, man gets sex. Simplistic I know, but I think that is what is happening here.

So you think this might have been an incorrect critisism of my reply @ 1221 on Tuesday then?

When lovely woman stoops to folly,
And finds too late that men betray,
What charm can sooth her melancholy,
What art can wash her guilt away?

The only art her guilt to cover,
To hide her shame from every eye,
To give repentance to her lover,
And wring his bosom—is to die.
