For the past few weeks ive been experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety with the result that Ive been drinking every night to cope. Ive been in this position before so recognise the symptoms and where its leading. As many on here know, 3 yrs ago I ended up getting sectioned after a similar (prolonged) bout of the same.
Just been the doctors and asked for a weeks worth of sedative to replace the drink and get back on track again before I end up like I did 3 yrs ago. He refused saying that I was already on mirtazapine. When I was in a psychiatric unit I was given both Mirtazapine AND valium so I cant see the problem. Just left the doctors no better off.
Feel like history repeating itself when no one would listen then.

Ive also just found out that my care coordinator with the mental health team has moved on to other things and no one has let me know and he hasn't been replaced. I despair
I know it's easier said than done but why not throw your drink away and go for a long walk in the evenings.
You could ask to see another doctor
Nailit my friend..can only offer hugs...is there a crisis care team you can contact ?
I think they do listen but would rather avoid drug combinations if they can.

In a psychiatric unit you're being monitored but at home you're not.

Thanks for replies guys. Im just despairing at the moment as its becoming a repeat of what happened 3 yrs ago. All I need is a weeks worth of sedative to help at night but no body will listen. Just walked out of the doctors absolutely no better off
Nailit, phone the number you used to speak to the care coordinator, and ask why have you been forgotten.

Best wishes

I'm sure a week's supply of tranx won't assist the problem, just delay it a week and give you unwanted side effects to boot. Best get yourself down to the local CMHT asap - good luck !

Mention alcohol to crises team or cmht and they tell you to see your GP...Which is what ive just done
Oh poor you nailit. The only other thing I can suggest is going to A+E and tell them you are on verge of trying to hurt yourself. They'll listen then, I promise you.

Baths....that's not true!

Bathsheba, trust me they wont. 3 yrs ago the police took me to A&E when I was suicidal, they kicked me out the next morning saying It was just the alcohol talking. A few nights later I got sectioned after been found on the railway station threatening to throw myself under a train as I had nowhere left to turn
Really ummm? It did happen that way with someone very close to me.

Baths...they look at self harmers as bed blockers clogging up their system. They need psych help not A&E and not all hospitals have psych help available.

Well I must admit alcohol wasn't involved in the case I was thinking about.

Baths.

chanel, ive had dealings with AA before, its not for me. Im not using alcohol for the sake of using alcohol, Im using it as a medication. That's why I asked the doctor to 'REPLACE' my medication with something less harmful
nailit..do you have a crisis care team ?
Question Author
murry, if you mention alcohol to the crisis care team they tell you to see your GP....
I know Nailit it is and can be a vicious circle and you don't know where to turn to. First of all if you can do it just DO it right now. Easier said than done. GPs don't want to give you the drugs especially two as mixed can be a lethal poison and they don't want to be held responsible if you hurt yourself or do something rash.

Be kind to yourself and just be you without these drugs. Remember perhaps many moons ago - you were you - without these drugs. You were a person who didn't need (what you feel) the patronising answers from the powers that be (you can do it on your own). Tonight just go to bed as hard as it will be without the drugs as tomorrow will be just the same as today.

I have just realised Nailit that stress and anxiety is there every single day of my life (just like other people have stress and anxiety) I can't control it so have learned to live with it. I have been off drink for 3 months now (cold turkey) and I have never felt better. Mind you you are the only person I have told this. LOL

Go it alone Nailit cos even if doctor gives you the mirthingmajig and valium - you will keep on asking for it and more. Best wishes to you Nailit and try your hardest - remember you are a better person than drugs and drink. Good luck xxx
can't you get back to them and tell them you have been down that road with no positive outcome ?
