Got bitten a couple of weeks ago on my leg. It swelled and it swelled until I had a 7 inch round angry red lump on the inside of my knee. Joint was painful, walking was painful and it blummin hurt. Home treated with antihistamines and ibuprofen.

Sat night, I got bitten on the outside of (and just above) my elbow. So far lump is about 2.5 inches round and growing and painful.

I have to take lots of notes this week (bite is on right arm, I am right handed) - a recording device is not an option (not allowed in Court). Whole thing is starting to ache like a B****.

Anything else anyone can suggest, last night I actually wanted to chew my own arm off.

" don't want to bother gp" has their job. !!!!!
soothe it with some soaked porridge oats in a muslin cloth (or similar)and keep your arm in a bowl of cold water at the same time (or just put the oats in the water if you don't mind the mess) - I have huge reactions to bites and this works for me. Support with antihistamine at regular intervals =Loratadine works for me and doesn't make me dozy (at least more dozy than usual) I know how you feel!!!!!
AB hysteria.........bit on Saturday...normal reaction on Monday (2 days later) and the usual cry comes up:

"See you GP"
"You need antibiotics"
" These are not mosquito bites...these are horsefly bites"

I can see why doctors are emigrating from the UK.
MrAsk was badly bitten last week, I looked online for help and the general consensus was ice packs and hydrocortisone cream 1%. Which he did and it eased the itchy red lumps on his leg. Try not to scratch as they could become infected, which is when you need to see your GP
In reply to sqads answer - I lived in Africa for many years - although we couldn't get loratadine or similar, the other suggestion I made was a well used remedy. No rushing off to the GP - he/she was a million miles away.
"" got bitten a couple of weeks ago"" read the op doc .
Try that anneasquith

Anne - you must have good doctors - we only get an appointment within 4 weeks - I don't think "bites" would even warrant an emergency doctor's appointment.
OH is very susceptible to mozzie bites. His hand has swollen like a football before now. A number of years ago he was so badly bitten he had blood poisoning. He gets loads of itchy spots coming up all the time. Every day has to coat himself in a moisturiser and umpteen times a day he does what I call trouser diving where he has to keep applying an anti itching type of cream.
These spots come up everywhere but a lot on his legs. He has seen numerous doctors and they all say there is no cure.
I attract ed mozzies, gnats all biting things made a bee line for me,my record was 42 in a week!
I discovered "Incognito" a natural product which comes in a spray, roll on, cream from Holland and Barrett, Sainsbury, on-line(Google the name can't remember the web site).
Camping in Scotland, Safari in Africa, Italian Lakes ...not a nibble! And they have a Zapper for bites in case you miss a spot.
Have recommended it to friends all over the world and they all agree it's brilliant.
