i have had 4 children, while i dont claim to be an expert on the matter, they all started walking before 11 months and they never had baby walkers, friends and other people i spoke to who had baby walkers they babies did'nt walk untill averge 12 -13 months, however this did'nt impede their development in any other way, its just a mothers pride really when your baby walks before others. i prefer a play pen for up to half an hour at a time if you need to be getting on with some cleaning or whatever.

I have two daughters of 15 and 12.  Both had a baby-walker when they toddlers but my youngest wasn't that keen on it.  My eldest didn't take her first steps until she was 13 months but, as soon as she did, she was very steady on her feet and a confident walker.  My youngest, however, started walking at 10 months and I spent almost every day wishing she hadn't!  The amount of falling over and the number of bruises she ended up with.......not worth the trouble!  If I was mad enough and rich enough to do it all again - I'd definitely buy another baby-walker but this time I'd make the child use it!

Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with using them and it certainly doesn't stop them developing normally in other areas of their childhood.

It is now believed that baby walkers can now actually harm babies because it can force them to walk before they are actually ready and damage their backs.
