I've got a pretty nasty insect bite on my leg. My leg is sore, itchy and has swollen quite a bit - any ideas what can I do except for a trip to the GP?

Don't scratch it. Bathe in cool water. Antihystamine (sp?).

ask your pharmacist for some piriton, try and keep the leg elevated and keep an eye on it. if it gets bigger, feels hot or there is any pus...you should get your GP to have a peek cos it might be infected

We went on a cruise ship and I was bitten while on board and had to have (I think it was a steroid) injection to take the swelling down and then take anti histamin tablets

lots of antiseptic cream and cover it to stop you scratching, it should start to look better within about three days, that usually does the trick for me (insects seem to like my blood)!!!

Sounds stupid but put some soap on it...it really works!

Lore, I think you may have Elvititus,its a rare kind of allergy caused by shaking one of your legs whilst sodding about with too many Elvis threads,

There is a special pen thing you can get in Boots, it might be too late now but I take it on holiday and it has a sort of vacuum action and it draws out the poison or whatever it is that causes the allergic reaction.

I would get  to a pharmacist and ask their opinion, and for some over the counter treatment

The mysterious case of the swollen leg continues.... after being in quite a lot of pain last night I decided to go to the docs today... anyhoo, It IS infected and I need to take some anibiotics.
