Weak Soft Palate? Blocking Breathing
3 Answers
I have mentioned this before, but today it is worse so i thought I'd try and describe what is happening in the hope that someone can shed some light.
If I try and breathe through my nose, especially when lying down, but also when upright, my soft palate seems to move up and block it, making a snore/strangle sound. Also I find am breathing out but 'forgetting 'to breathe in, particularly when asleep or lying down. I don't have a cold or any breathing problems linked with a cold anymore. I have gained weight (2 stone) in the past year, making me now very overweight. This is why I thought it could be loose flappy skin around my neck/throat. Any thoughts?

You started off well by mentioning a "weak soft palate" which would go very well with your symptoms and increase in weight and then you spoiled it by going all daft by mentioning "loose flappy skin around my neck/throat."
your symptoms could be due to a whole host of clinical problems, none of which can be identified on AB with the information you have given.
See your GP.

Depends what you mean by neck/throat.......do you mean inside (no skin there, flappy or otherwise) or do you mean on the outside ( plenty of skin there).
I guess that you don't mean skin and that you are referring to the inside of the palate and throat in which case that is just one cause of sleep apnoea..........there are many others.
