Magnesium Sulphate Paste.

Mr T has a 'boil' on the side of the bridge of his nose. It flared up yesterday and he cannot get in to see a doctor until Tuesday.
We went to the pharmacy and were advised to apply mag. sulph. paste and keep it covered.

Any tips for applying the really sticky paste to a plaster? I am using the end of the handle of a teaspoon but it's a bit hit and miss. A lot of it ends up oozing out from under the plaster.

What else can I use that's strong enough to stir up the paste yet small enough to apply just a little?

They are doxycycline tablets, Eve. I have used a bigger plaster this morning but it's an awkward place to put it.

Eve makes a good point.......although Doxycline should be efficient when treating boils. However, when it bursts, perhaps you can go to the GP to have a swab taken for culture and sensitivity of the offending organism.

How about cutting a non-adhesive dressing to size then securing it round with medical tape?

I don't have either of those things in the house, Eve. I have used a bigger plaster and he took it off when we had some lunch. It has now started to bleed and so, hopefully, the paste is beginning to work. I hate that paste though, it gets everywhere.

It used to be called blackjack and is great for drawing splinters and boils.
I put it on a piece of gauze then stick that over the site with either a plaster or medical tape.

I put the gauze over my (very clean) finger tip and scoop it of the jar directly on to the gauze

It is horrible stuff, trying to clean it over everything it had gone over in my handbag was a nightmare, never bought it again after that!

I hope it sorts itself for him soon so he gets some relief (gross but feels so much better once they go!). Must be really awkward to have one there and so visible, poor thing!
