Have one at home and doctor wants me to do it twice a day for a week or so after registering 180 at the surgery.
I appreciate that this is very high and trying to get it down but am I the only person who finds it a very painful process. Both at home and at the surgery I was nearly crying with the pain and think possibly why it is registering such a high level??

What's so painful, Jenny?
What type of blood pressure monitor do you have?I use one but do not suffer any discomfort.
I hate having BP done..the cuff always seems to be way too tight and hurts !
I agree that it is uncomfortable for a short while but I wouldn't say it was painful.
As for the high reading at the surgery it could just be "white coat syndrome". Mine is usually 160 at the surgery, but rarely over 120 at home.
Have you maybe put the cuff on the wrong way causing the sliding buckle thing to cut into your arm?

Tilly - the pressure of it 'grabbing' my arm is awful.
Danny. Lloyds Chemist. So I think it is a fairly good one.
Murray- thank you. Good to see I am not the only one.
Jason, believe me, it's painful to the point of wanting to scream. I do appreciate the 'white coat' syndrome but I'm not nervous at the doctors.
And Douglas. Cuff on correctly. Wearing it properly. Exactly as in the diagram and as they do at the surgery.
Yes, for some......it does hurt.
There is nothing you can do about it.
You can get BP monitors that fit round the wrist. If your pain is so bad it might be worth considering one.Have you told your GP that you are getting so much pain? He/she might have a solution.
Wrist cuffs also hurt many people.
........there is nothing one can do about it, other than stop doing your BP.

Thanks squad. Feel a bit better now.
Possibly I have a low threshold of pain resistance.
When I was having my two front teeth implants the dentist kept telling me off for squirming in the chair trying to get away from the pain.
You should change your dentist, Jenny.
I've got an Omron, a good make, and mine hurts me as well, but only for a few seconds before it starts to deflate. As my BP has gone down I find taking a reading hurts less.
