Prochlorperazine Vision Problems

I posted a couple of weeks ago, that I was experiencing dizzy spells (and nausea when they occurred), Yesterday I finally got it together to visit the GP., who seemed to think that I might have labyrinthitis and prescribed prochlorperazine 5mg tabs to be taken as required. I took one about 2hrs ago and now I'm getting a flashing sensation across my vision when I try to read anything. It says in the info that blurd vision might be a side effect but this is like parts of my vision is obliterated by flashing (its taken me ages just to write this) and theres a kind of 'whirling' sensation in the corner of my left eye. Its very disorientating.
Anyone else experienced this? Don't think i'll be taking anymore of these.

I have no experience of it, so don't know if this will settle with time.

However as it is more than a bit of burring I'd report back to the GP and enquire whether the dose or indeed the drug is right for you.

Eyesight problems are listed under 'More rare side effects' so you may be in that unlucky group.

Maybe it's the labyrinthitis and not the prochlorperazine that caused this new problem.

Also possible, yes - may be coincidence it came on after the first dose.

Thanks Mamy and Wolf, it seems to have gone again now. Only noticed because I was trying to read some comments on a you tube vid..and couldn't! Very strange sensation.
Ive had this lightheadedness/dizziness problem for a few weeks now but never had this vision problem before.

Nope, spoke to soon, flashing again. Perhaps have get used to them first?

Thanks Mamy, in fairness I think I'll have to give them a couple of days. My passion is reading and the thought that I wouldn't be able to read freaks me out a bit.

I cannot see, for the life of me that your eye symptoms are due to prochlorperazine.
My money is that they are due to the labyrinthitis...IF that is the correct diagnosis.

Do you suffer from migraine?

Thanks sqad. GP did say that my blood pressure was also slightly high (got go back in 2 weeks to get it checked again with the nurse) Could that have anything to do with dizziness and/or vision probs (I know that LOW blood pressure can cause dizziness but never heard of HIGH blood pressure causing it.

I also wondered about migraine - what you describe sounds like it could be a migraine aura

From what you have said nailit, I am not sure whether you are suffering from dizziness or unsteadiness (fainting) and these can be difficult to differentiate at times, without some time spending with the patient.
Both high BP and low BP can have an effect on the system producing the eye symptoms that you have described.

Thanks Sqad, Its not so much dizziness as feeling lightheaded (the feelings similar to been dropped like hitting an air pocket in a plane...best way I can describe it) and a feeling of nausea.

Strange one though Mamy. I'll take the tabs for a few days and see if it reoccurs.

I'll just have see how the BP is in a couple of weeks then sqad?? My GP didn't seem to sure of labyrinthitis just thought I had the symptoms of it.
