Gall Stones

One of my sister-in-laws has gall stone problems.....apart from the gall bladder removal, what other treatment can be given ?

Keyhole surgery is used now mikey. Vera had quite a big one and that's how it was removed.

1) Monitor the situation. Do nothing, but see how the symptoms affect her life.
2) Tablets to dissolve the gall stones....USELESS.
and that is about it without surgery which is the most effective form of treatment.

In a nutshell....but the websites will quickly follow by other ABers.

The was question was "WITHOUT" gall bladder removal.
Keyhole surgery involves gall bladder removal.

Gall stones are mikey. I had to be careful cooking for her. not even olive oil! Her stone was too big for the ultrasonic process, so it was keyhole surgery, the stone was over half an inch wide!

dad had a few stones removed via keyhole because of their positioning...ended up having gall bladder removed..through his belly button ! ... no complications straight forward and benefits felt at once.... no big deal these days

My perception is that gall stone problems are much more experienced by ladies, rather than us chaps.....why is that ?

It was just one big stone sqad, it's location I'm unsure of. But it was obviously where it could be removed without the gall bladder, so what you say makes sense. Bare in mind she had the first cancer at the same time.

I have gallstones. Very painful. My scan showed a golfball sized gallstone. I had my first attack after a challenge to eat 2 big macs. Then another after a heavy Xmas meal. That was 9 years (maybe more) ago. So I dont eat as much in one go and havent had any further problems apart from I feel sometimes when stones pass through me and treat with painkillers.
Truth is I thought I was going to catch worse bugs in hospital than put up with the Gallstones.
