What is the probability of someone having pneumonia but being oblivious to it?

I can only comment on the available information in the question which is "can one be symptomfree with pneumonia?"

Fair enough, Sqad. The idea of pulling in a totally healthy person with no symptoms whatsoever and giving them a chest x- ray is outside my experience xx

I may be mistaken but I believe an abdominal CT scan, a chest x-Ray and abdominal ultrasound were all conducted as a routine procedure. The whys and wherefores, are within my remit.

Nobody said the individual was totally healthy Pixie.

The patient in question was routed directly to hospital vis GP and Consultant intervention. However the pneumonia diagnosis was a surprise.

Perfectly possible then. We had a 60 year old member of staff who just didn't feel 100%, but well enough to work all week. She died suddenly that weekend of a heart attack- it showed she had had pneumonia, but no idea. Even more common with older people.

People with a cough and temp and feel unwell often continue to work and with that situation, may ? just might! unlikely, but could have pneumonia.

No cough or temperature, just didn't feel great.

pixie..........then i would question the diagnosis of pneumonia.
BUT..if you say she did have pneumonia, then she DID.

The post mortem found it. That was singular, Eccles, but certainly not unusual- especially with older people who don't necessarily feel brilliant in the first place. The symptoms aren't always the obvious ones.

You are jumping to conclusions Pixie, some one in the forties is not elderly in my book.
