I have been suffering from lower back pain for a few weeks and decided to go for some physio. A friend suggested going to an Osteopath and now I am wondering which would be best?
I'd recommend that somebody trained in the workings of the spine has a right good dig around before any manipulation or massage takes place. Having been off work for two months, a week of which was spent in screaming agony thanks to a 'therapist' treating blind I'd say be very careful. In on Tuesday for back to work interview and fitness to drive checks, fingers...
My first port of call would be for a good, deep massage.....not a stroky aromatherapy massage but a proper firm Swedish massage......and if the pain is bad combine it with acupuncture.....x

you might get physio on the NHS, but not osteopathy.
I've had great results from osteopaths, but they're all different and you never know whether you're going to get a good one; some are useless (at least with me, yet you may find the same people very effective).
Thanks for the advice everyone. I have had an initial appointment with a physiotherapist I have been to before. Lots of questions and an examination now I have excercises to strengthen my glutes and hamstring muscles. Just have to try and keep to the programme he has given me.
