Naproxen And Omeprazole - Taking On An Empty Stomach
16 Answers
I have been given naproxen - and because naproxen is known to be hard on the stomach, i have also been given omeprazole
on the naproxen it says take with or after food - obviously as a protective measure for the tum
but now that i also have the omeprazole, can i take the naproxen on an empty stomach?
i would like to take the naproxen first thing in the morn, along with my other tablets = but dont want to risk hurting myself, and i dont want to have to eat just to take them - i dont like eating first thing
so is my stomach protected now?
thanks

I'm on Omeprazole, 2 dissolve tablets every morning, which I take just before very early breakfast of either cereal or toast, due to precaution, as had a bleeding duodenal ulcer repair and fix in January, and I would definitely advise taking them with food after, as it also says on the instructions how to take them. My stomach feels fine, touchwood.
If you're not too hungry when you first wake up, just take them when you feel peckish....
As far as the Naxproxens concerned, you mention that it states to take with/ just after food, so I would follow that rule, Joko.... take care :-)

Hi ummmm
You're fine to take it without food also, or with food, if you prefer.......with mine, I take 2 x 20mg so with that amount feel better if, at least, I have taken them with a weetabix or/and one or two toast, to settle in the tum....these are what I'm on currently.....sometimes changes to similar if chemist has different ones in stock... but 'Omeprazole' written instead.....but dispersable.

That is a bit on the low side, ummmm,....I've monitored mine daily since ulcer procedure in Jan and average 125/75... heart/pulse 65-70'sh.
You may need to come slightly down on the dosage, but the blood tests will certainly pinpoint what the problem may be, and your Doctor can then change your meds, if appropriate.
Joint pain is rare, but not unusual in some people.....know someone that gets it too....she's 42 years old...
And don't forget that the pains might not be linked to the meds at all.....it might be that you just tweaked something in your everyday actions....sleeping awkardly etc.....
Has it been going on for long or it just started in last few days/weeks?
Try not to worry about it as you WILL get fixed up in the end. x

Sorry Joko...
It started about 2 weeks after starting the meds but I'd started decorating so I put it down to that. I had some time off but it carried on getting worse. It's in all my joints now so OH read the side effects of Omeprazole and it appears there so thought I'd get it checked. It's a nuisance. They advise me to drink more fluids to help with my blood pressure but if I do I wake up in pain needing a wee at least 3 times a night.

Please excuse me, Joko.....
It may have been through the stretching and bending down etc, in your decorating that's not really helped, ummmm....it must be a piggin' nuisance, as you say....
Good that OH has seen after effects on meds and always advisable to check it out with a GP, so all good there.
Yeah, the drinking fluids problem is also a nuisance, as I tend to drink quite a bit during the day, but recently have not been drinking too much after around 7:30'sh pm so I do get an undisturbed sleep without waking up and needing a wizz...even cut down on my late night Hot Chocolate lately, because there are times that having had it, I wake up around 3'sh and gotta go....since trying not to drink that much after 7:30pm, been able to sleep right through until up early and alarm wakes me.
You can perhaps try that.....but make sure you drink a fair amount daytime and up to very early evening....may work, my lovely x

Hi Joko
Naproxen does work better on an empty tum.. I take Lansaprozole and my BP meds first thing without food as I also cannot eat early in the morning.. no bad effects so far which leaves me time to take my other painkillers, Tramadol after food etc.. Good luck and I hope you get relief.. working well with my arthritis so far.. :).. just make sure you drink plenty!
