How Can I Choose The Right Sunscreen

What is preventing me from choosing the right one is the claims that unnatural sunscreens like Nivea are hazardous to the skin which defeats the whole object what a sunscreen is meant to do. (Why even sell it if its chemicals are so damaging; they should be banned if that's the case)

But I heard natural sunscreens such as badger balm, Jason etc are either far too thick or do not protect your skin.

So what I can I do?

Who says it is damaging ?
I'd be interested to see written reports on Nivea products that are damaging.

They may not suit everyone, but that's entirely different.
It's December!
I have never heard of sun screens, especially Nivea, being "hazardous to the skin"....where on earth did you get that one from ?

What would be really damaging, is for you not to wear any sunscreen at all, or one with too little protection.

In the days when I used to ski, i would be packing the highest sun-protection factor I could, when heading to the Alps at this time of year.

Well they didn't mention any brands but since they mentioned that non mineral/unnatural sunscreens are filled with chemicals that cause the big C, strips the skin of its health etc.
I will try and find the sites that said so.
Snakey....the whole world is full of chemicals....like our Ozzie friends say....no worries !

Here is one of them: http://info.achs.edu/blog/bid/335672/The-5-Worst-Pieces-of-Advice-We-ve-Ever-Heard-About-Sunscreen-and-the-3-BEST?hs_amp=true

It does not mention any brands but it say to stay away away from chemical sunscreens and that mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide are a must.
Ahh yes lets take our health advice from a blog!!!
Do you have any decent evidence?
oh that looks like a REALLY reliable site where I would believe every word they write (sarcasm)
Keep covered up and stay indoors, oh and perhaps a Vitamin D supplement.

It might be a blog but any site that has edu/gov instead of .com, chances are it is credible.
Not 'Gov' - American College of Healthcare Sciences is behind the blog.

I'm sure they accept questions.
Snakeman that link you posted is total CARP !!!
It says many sunscreens contain Lead!! Utter rubbish, Lead is totally banned from any skin product or cosmetic and has been for decades.
Zinc Oxide is opaque white , it is SUN BLOCK not a sun screen.
You see cricket players using it when they have to play out in full sun in places like Australia. For that use it is the only thing that totally blocks the sun.
Sorry to burst your bubble but it does not have .gov in its url. American College of Holistic Studies (ACHS) was originally from New Zealand and the name was not Copyrighted until 2017.
// So what I can I do? //
do a course in Bot I think

the first yellow page of your link has awful chemicals that may kill you and they are all plant names - er - natural that is - natural plants I mean. makes you fink dunnit?

so if they are plant and cause a dermatitis - it is a phytodermatitis

and if the plant will only cause a dermatitis - AFTER exposure to light then it is a phyto photo dermatitis

and it is here!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phytophotodermatitis

and look it has three of the chemicals in the list - lime and berlocque are pretty well known to be honest- psilocin I think o god who cares about a name

lemon - I dont think does - it is meant to bleach your hair so long as you are fairish to start.

some of the cucurbitae cause a light sensitive rash - I blistered after a wildish marrow trifid plant touched me - is it Hogweed or Stinkweed? that does it plus plus - but others do it [er plus minus]

I mean dont agonise about this sort of thing
go and read a book !

and your new word - fighter-foter-dermatitis

sunscreen - anything with factor 50 in the title
which means it has to contain Titanium

Available on Amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blockshop-White-Zinc-Sun-Reflector/dp/B00HYWMUQE
White Zinc sun reflector,it is safe, it is effective , it does the job, but the name says it. It is bright white so that it reflects the sun off your skin.
It is not a cosmetic product to get a good suntan it is a total sun block so your skin gets no sunlight at all.
Are you looking for a sunscreen so that you can safely stay in the sun longer or a sunblock to block it completely ? If the latter White Zinc Oxide SunBlock is what you need . But you need to remember the parts of your body that have the white zinc oxide sun block on them will be bright reflective white.

It is a sunscreen that I am looking for and I just looked at the ingredients of products including Nivea, Hawaii etc and most of them include avobenzone, Oxybenzone etc which are certainly hazardous to the skin and Nivea 'sensitive' sun lotion has ingredients that are bad for...sensitive skin.
