Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening

I've had a letter to attend the above. Has anyone undergone this procedure, as I've never heard of it.

as they fellas say - ultrasound scan of abdo and measure the size of the aorta - I think 10 cm is the cut off size ( or 2.5 cm or something - they obviously know )
and then off you go
works well - the results from surgery if the aorta is too large is good
being in the 'wrong' screening group is irrelvant
i still get asked to go for ca colon screening even tho they should know I have had it

Just missed the start of the national screening programme and had it done after it was mentioned to me. My Dad suffered an aortic aneurysm at the age of 68 and he couldn't be saved. I was found to be OK - and it was also stated that the procedure to repair the aneurysm was pretty routine in most cases.
