I've just had to pay c £220 for a broken tooth to be extracted and replaced with a bridge. I'm 68, too. I also have to pay for check-ups. I use an NHS dentist, but I broke a tooth last week and am going on holiday on Sat. so the only appointment I can get to fill it is by going private - this will cost nearly £70. :(

Dental charges were introduced in 1951 Mikey, just 3 years after the NHS was formed. I'm not sure whether over 65s had to pay back in 1951 or whether that came later
