Parkinsons Desease

My husband has various health problems, his doctor suspects he may have parkinsons, but he is refusing to get a proper diagnosis. At the moment he doesn't want to know!
My question is will it be any benefit if he is diagnosed or a detriment if he does not?

Get him to go to the GP and have a proper diagnosis cazdee, the not knowing or not wanting to know is worse. At least if he has it, there are medications to help walking, tremors and all that comes with Parkinsons, you will also get some support in caring for him, practical support I mean. I'd try gently encourage him to go see the gp

Parkinson's is a progressive disease with distinctive features such as dysdiadochokinesia, etc.

Early diagnosis facilitates better treatment success.

From what I recall of my knowledge of Parkinson's disease, the treatments don't cure the disease....its not like a cancer where the earlier the cancer is treated, the less likely it is to spread. An early diagnosis does mean that the medications can be given earlier and are more likely to work and delay the onset of the disabling and very unpleasant symptoms.

I can absolutely understand your husbands attitude and its not an uncommon one, although it wouldn't be my attitude.

In all honesty, if he won't get a diagnosis though then he won't and realistically there's not a lot you can do. Such a refusal is usually because the person is terrified of what they will be told. Love him and support him and hope and pray that he changes his mind.

Agree with all the above, plus it may not be Parkinsons at all. He REALLY needs a proper diagnosis.

If he doesn't want to know, then I understand that, particularly if he has other health problems e.g heart disease or diabetes etc.
Early diagnosis is a challenge quite often and there is no specific test for Parkinson's Disease, so there is no hurry here.
I wouldn't pressurise him, but a Neurological opinion would be assuring in the coming weeks or months.
