It's a DBS certificate these days (and has been for years). It's posted to the person who is applying for employment (or as a volunteer), not to the employer/voluntary body.
As buenchico says it is now DBS.
There is some info here which may help

Interesting link. I got one with a hospice last year and it was sent to them because they paid for it. Apparently that should have changed in 2013.
I've had loads done and I've always had a copy come to me.
I never have had, except when I paid for it (with an agency). They seem to worry you will go off and use it somewhere else.
I used to get crb certs sent to me but haven't had any from the dbs although I'm sure my employer will have renewed it as necessary.
That's another thing. They weren't portable so one was required for each role. I had to have two running concurrently at one time.
Yes... employers always wanted a new one.
Yes it's one for each role. I know a man who is a school teacher and also a Scout leader . He needs two DBS certificates even though the scout group meet in the same school hall where he teaches.
Further to the comments above . . .

DBS certificates can now become 'portable' between different employers (and/or voluntary organisations) if the applicant pays £13 per year to stay registered with the update service:

Asked my wife, GP practice. The practice applies and pays. When the DBS is completed, the practice is sent a code to see the result online. The person involved gets the documents in the post. Hope that helps.
I had to get (yet another) one when I began helping the slow readers in our local Sec.school. I refused to do it and the School did it for me, with my attendance to answer questions.

I have an issue with this. In the 1990's I was a very active High Jump coach in the North. I was in demand all-over the place. Every club needed me to get a new clearance. I couldn't see the point of this as I was already cleared as a teacher with 2 Local Authorities and the Chief Constable (fed-up of the applications) wrote me an authorisation letter - to no avail, everyone had to stick by the rules. Eventually, I got fed-up and just stopped doing it - to the detriment of a lot of kids.

Back to OP - the 'employer' did it and I received the letter - which I have lost, 'cos I don't think I need to be certificated after my long history. If they want me, they can do it. I give them over 2 hours per week and they would have to pay me quite a lot if I went as a qualified teacher. The system annoys me considerably - surely 1 CRB check should suffice?
