I began to suffer from joint pain and localised swelling; knuckles, toes, base of thumb, heel/sole of foot. Complained to my doc about it and i asked if it could be the statins. He replied in the negative and asked me to keep a diary for 3 months of all these unexplained symptoms. I lasted 36 days. On many of those days i couldn't walk because the heel of one foot and the sole of the other were affected and on other days i couldn't even peel and cut vegetables. When i went to see him again with the 36 day diary, he agreed to halve the dosage to 40mg. I now rarely suffer from the symptoms and when they are present, they are nowhere near as debilitating as they once were. Conclusion; must've been the statins, then?
Nailit, in our house we consume butter and cheese by the bucket load and I always cook my roasties in dripping or lard. I have my fair share of wine, and then some! I'm not overweight and my cholesterol has never been elevated. I've never had a high BP reading in my life.
I simply never eat processed or refined foods and and sugars and carbs are kept as rare treats. I don't do fruit but I eat a tonne of veg weekly.

// Sqad's theory....it's not the fats that kill you but the carbohydrates.
P.S Don't quote me...;-) //
I love you sqad...it's refreshing to read a statement by someone in the medical profession that goes against what has been considered "right" or "healthy" for several generations.
I've also read that the connection between dietary fat and heart disease has never been proven. There seems to be a new generation of doctors/scientists doing research that disproves the old thinking.
I also agree with Nom...eat real food...including fat.
