National Shortage Of Vitamin B12

Went to get my B12 jab at the doctor’s surgery yesterday but they said there was a shortage and I would have to see if the chemist across the road had any. If they did I would have to come back to the surgery to get a prescription, then go back to the chemist to get it, then come back to the surgery for the nurse to inject it........ !!
They told me that there has been a shortage for a couple of months now but had no idea why
What a palaver - still at least I got my “steps” in :-)

Hmm, I had a test for something to do with B12 last week.
I hope they don't intend milking me for it if they find a surplus.

I take it in tablet form. I feel quite Ill without it

If they can't deliver it subcutaneously, just load up on eggs.

Seriously, they might have to save what supplies they do have for chemo patients.

It’s not only cancer patients NoM, I have had most of my bowel removed so the only way I can get it it is by injection. I have been advised to ring before I am due for my next one to see I f it is back in stock.

I appreciate your need for B12 injections but I was just thinking that maybe the chemo patients are being given priority with what little supplies we do have.

Is it Hydoxycobalamin you normally receive?

Yes NoM, that’s the one. I have been having the injections for 25 years now and it’s the most painful I have ever known! Only lasts a few seconds but my goodness it hurts.

Ah right, are they injecting it intra-muscularly? A subcut injection wouldn't hurt that much.

Maybe there's now a B12 deficiency / insufficiency epidemic. In any case they need to get it sorted as B12 isn't something that people can just do without.

I get mine ordered by the GP for the year in advance so I will be OK for a while yet.
Having said that I am having to get mine 2 weeks early this cycle as I am really suffering this cycle.
