Several coffins can be cremated at the same time but each will be in a separate compartment so the ashes don't mix

I had an uncle that worked for an undertakers for the last few years of his working life.
He was a bit sceptical about the whole cremation business as well but reassured us all that the body that you burn is the body (albeit in ashes) is the body that you get back.
