Hi ABers. Can any body offer some advice please?
I suffer from RLS which makes sleeping difficult.
I heard that it might be a lack of potassium and magnesium in my diet.
I am wary of this advice, as often, I believe, more substances are needed to help absorb the desired vitamins and minerals.
I am male, 67, 5ft 9ins, and 15st 7lb, and not very active.
I eat once a day, fairly balanced diet with no sweet stuff but I do like a beer, sometimes too much, too often.
Am not drinking at the moment.
Thank you in advance of any help.

Thanks W. I ill investigate that. I have a local health food / supplement shop.
If I was you, I would try a multi vitamin for a while. You can't be getting the required range of vitamins that you need from just one meal a day even if it is balanced.
Vitamin D tablets.
Talk it over with your GP. A low dose of Amitrityline is often prescribed for this condition - helped my ex a lot.

Many thanks to all. Most useful.
With your scorn for Science, shouldn't you turn to God ?

Or is he an Aber ?
don't be mean, Canary, Christians go to GPs as well. If God has put potassium and magnesium on Earth why should Theland not try them? But I agree you might try some multivits, one meal may not be providing what you need.

I love science but not the imaginary stuff that Dawkins subscribes to.
But yes I may try a trip to Lourdes and take a dip.
But hope not like the wheelchair bound guy who was lowered into the pool, and came out with new tyres on his chair.

Ill make the tea with holy water.
Get yourself some maryjane.

From the below link:

Typically, ingested marijuana (through brownies or cookies, for example) does not seem to benefit RLS very much, while inhaled marijuana (through a marijuana cigarette or vaporizer) works very quickly and effectively. Most RLS sufferers report that after only a few puffs of a marijuana cigarette or a few inhalations of vaporized medical marijuana, even very severe symptoms are relieved within minutes. The relief does not last very long, wearing off after one or two hours. Therefore, inhaled marijuana works best for RLS symptoms that occur mainly at bedtime. Patients have reported that a one month supply of medical marijuana may last three to four months when used to treat bedtime RLS symptoms.

Mmmmm knock out drops then.
Yes and after 3 you won’t feel a thing when you’re in pain anything is worth a try.
Your electrolytes could be low but that's easily checked with routine biochemistry.

May I suggest that you take a Vitamin D and iron supplement too. Low vitamin D can lead to all sorts of problems including generalised aches and pains poor memory and concentration and low mood. Low iron can also be associated with low mood, low energy, etc.

A good multi-vit is probably your best bet, as has already been suggested.
