Am I A Sociopath
13 Answers
Hey everyone: so for years people have thought I'm a sociopath, I relate to almost every trait... But I can still love people and form connections, it's hard to describe but if I don't know or care about someone I just take not caring about them to the fullest extent, like if they died Infront of me I wouldn't care at all, if I did something wrong to them I would have zero remorse... But if it's someone I love then I will love them to there fullest extent and would die for them and would be endlessly sorry if I even did something slightly wrong, I also take loyalty super seriously, I would never be unloyal to anyone no matter what. All I'm wondering is there something wrong with me, can a sociopath still feel this way and if not what am I?

Sociopaths can still love, especially family and those close to them. In my opinion, what makes someone a sociopath is the lack of care or remorse for certain thoughts, actions or feelings. If you could see someone die and simply turn around and walk away, then i would heavily class you as a sociopath.

I mean.. i'd never be able to diagnose you with sociopaths tenancies, but it seems you may have some. You need to remember this doesn't make you a horrible person at all. I know of two people who are sociopaths. They are both also heavily narcissistic, generally they're nice people, just very exhausting to be around.
If i didn't know they had sociopathic tenancies, then i may not be able to tolerate it as often as i can.

It sounds to me as if you are self-diagnosing.
A sociopath is a term used to describe someone who has antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). People with ASPD can’t understand others’ feelings. They’ll often break rules or make impulsive decisions without feeling guilty for the harm they cause.
ASPD is part of a category of personality disorders characterized by persistent negative behaviors.
People with ASPD may also use “mind games” to control friends, family members, co-workers, and even strangers. They may also be perceived as charismatic or charming.
If you feel strongly enough I suggests you seek professional diagnosis, but from your inital post I would doubt you are suffering from an ASPD related mental illness.

I would say that although you may lack feelings and empathy for strangers, you say that you love and care for people close to you and would be endlessly sorry if you did something wrong to them and that you take loyalty seriously.. I would, therefore, say that you are not a sociopath. They tend to be able to act like they love but not have the feelings to back that up. A sociopath would ultimately not care about loyalty and can easily manipulate those around him regardless of relationship to his own end, not really caring if they got hurt or not. You may just be a little self absorbed and narcissistic but not a sociopath. I think you behave like a lot of people do these days. They care about themselves and their loved ones but nothing more, the rest of the world is irrelevant to them.
