I am really struggling to eat and drink after my hernia op on Friday.
I obviously don’t have a large appetite anyway but today’s food has been 2/3 of a slice of cheese on toast, 2 wafer thin slices of beef and 2 chicken wings. Which is less than I would normally manage. Is this something I should raise with the GP when I see them for my staples removed?

I would certainly mention it, yes.
If I remember rightly, you have had an umbilical hernia repaired.....if so, then your eating problem is no big deal.
It will pick up and providing that you have no difficulty in swallowing or colicky abdominal pain...........then don't worry.........I wouldn't even bother to mention it to your GP.
Yes...

How about nutrient drinks?

Hope you feel better soon but such little food is going to make you feel crappy x
I don't have a helpful answer I'm afraid but just hope you feel better soon x
Sqad - even after having weight loss surgery and now a hernia op?
Question Author
Sqad the operation was clear cut the recovery period not so blood pressure dropped very low and I was kept in for several hours extra.
I’m actually in more pain than I was for my sleeve operation and reliant on pain killers.
Ummm hubby has actually just gone out to purchase some protein shakes
They taste naff but they do work :-)
It would be sensible whilst at the GP Surgery to mention it really, you aren't wasting anyone's time - that's their job.
" today’s food has been 2/3 of a slice of cheese on toast, 2 wafer thin slices of beef and 2 chicken wings."

One week after abdominal surgery......the above isn't bad and plenty of time to recover her appetite, which is small anyway.
No signs or symptoms of obstruction and he weight loss procedure was many many months ago, probably well over a year.

Just my opinion.

Thanks all for your opinions
I have nothing to add RR, just get well soon, I hope you get some nourishment from the Protein drink, I'd say it to the gp if it was me, no harm in mentioning it I think. xx Ducks
Poor you. I hope things improve soon
Is Dunnes River a protein shake? If they are, the chocolate one is lush.
Question Author
Thanks rocky not heard of them but will look into them
Just optimise what you feel like eating, and switch to nibbling as you feel like it. If you use protein shakes make up half at a time at first. Because you have restricted intake anyway it must seem worse for you. Even simple abdominal surgery can cause issues for ages, if protein shakes cause too much bloating try kefir which is fermented and really easy to digest.

Thanks Rowan improved slightly yesterday I managed half a yoghurt, a turkey drummer for lunch, another for dinner and then 2 crackers and cheese for supper.
So hopefully each day a little improvement rr?
Ask the chemist for Complan and/or Ensure. They taste fine and are proper meal supplements.

If they are carb heavy jackdaw I can’t take them I normally take protein shakes so will just try and replace a cup of tea with a protein shake. Thanks though

Let’s hope so annea
Take small steps food-wise. If you can manage them, try scrambled eggs. Lots of nutrition and not too heavy.
