My son had an Achilles' tendon operation at the beginning of October. He then got an infection in the wound which resulted in another op to debride the wound and spent another 8 days in hospital being given intravenous antibiotics and then treated at home with nurses coming in three times a day to continue treatment. A reaction to one of the abs resulted in him getting sepsis with another spell in hospital, very frightening. He is now on the road to recovery and has got a great big plastic boot which gives stability to the ankle and is beginning to weight bear gradually. He has now developed a nasty bright red rash around his crotch and is not due to see his consultant until next week. Can anybody suggest a cream to treat this?

Sounds like a fungus infection.....go to Boots and purchase Daktarin Cream and don't use any of his towels.

He has had bad luck with his operation.
I think I would be inclined to ring the hospital and ask to speak to someone about it, or ring your surgery and ask to speak to a Doctor, don't wait till next week.

Thanks Sqad, it's been a disaster from start to finish and after all that the operation has probably failed! I'll nip out and get some of the cream and see how it goes. Thanks also Biccylova.
Yes doctor asap but Canestan will help and certainly won't do harm. Poor lad.

Just a quick update. Saw the pharmacist who said he would not recommend daktarin as he is on tinzaparin injections at the moment. He managed to get a doctor's appointment and he prescribed canestan cream and I'm pleased to say the rash is beginning to clear. Thanks to you all for your help.
Thanks for the update.
