If you see a specialist privately and they tell you you need an operation, do/can you go straight on to the NHS waiting list or do you have to start from scratch with the NHS?

When I paid to see a specialist he had me in a NHS hospital bed within 48 hours for NHS treatment.
that seems a bit unfair as it means someone on the NHS list gets pushed back .
You go and see the specialist and pay
that means you will see the Great Man himself and not his Very Bright Registrar
and he thay
you need operation X
and you say - can you do this yourself?
and he will say yeah this after noon five hundred knicker
and you say - no on the NHS
and HE will say - Oh I dont do these on the NHS but Mr Y does OR yeah I will put you on the list ....

Alot of the cases on these threads turn out to be urgent - like me - ca colon, not that early either - in which case you get onto the standard conveyor belt - rapidly.....

It’s not super urgent but there is sort of a time frame.
// that seems a bit unfair as it means someone on the NHS list gets pushed back .//

no - not if they are urgent - and they get on the conveyor belt in the position they should have been if the system worked well

I was left on the NHS for seven weeks with advanced lymphoma - and my GP said - It is incredible - I dont seem to be able to move anyone !
all the nobs had gone on holiday and none of the Bright Registrars seemed ready to make a decision
oh, get referred thro your GP
he will always be the gate keeper for future treatment if any
It depends who refers you. My son hurt his knee, seen his Dr, and was referred to the hospital and home within an hour.

I was ill last year and was taken straight to a ward.
It was the great man himself who treated me on the NHS. He said that I had saved the NHS a great deal of money by paying for the consult - had I waited for the NHS appointment the treatment would have been more complicated and hospital recovery time longer.
A different GP may have pushed for a quicker NHS appointment.
NHS Policy is that you would have to go straight back to see the Consultant in the NHS...that is consutation again and then waiting list.

However.......it depends on the Consultant......but most will make you see him again on the NHS.
// ..that is consutation again and then waiting list. //

depends on the diagnosis and urgency
whisked away ( 1999) - ca colon
and again 2016 - relapsed of lymphoma behind eyeball
// It was the great man himself who treated me on the NHS.//

yeah I had one list to myself both times - didnt make me that much happier considering the dx
