Apples? How come?
An apple would kick my reflux off in a heartbeat.
I don’t think many people realise how painful severe acid reflux can be. They just say oh heartburn, but the pain is horrendous.
I regularly took Gaviscon tablets until I woke up post op in ITU about 5 years ago with acid reflux. I asked the ITU nurse if it ws OK for me to pop a Gaviscon considering other medication that still may be inside my system whilst in theatre. The nurse consulted with the ITU sister and bought me back Omeprazole. I was given it in the take home pharmacy pack and hve been on it ever since. I have not suffered from acid reflux since. Stupid thing about Omeprazole is that I have always taken 40mg a day but I get two packs of 20mg prescribed as it is cheaper to prescribe two packs of 20mg than one pack of 40mg. Seems daft to me.
I'm on Omeprazole as well. Same, the dose on the packet says 20mg but I'm prescribed 40.

Apples aren't good! An apple or orange now and then, fine, but not on a regular basis.
I’m on 40mg too
I think 20 is the standard and they double it if they think it's needed. That's why they come in 20mg tabs...so you just take two.
Yes that’s what I take.
I don't take them everyday anymore. I was really scared to not doing it but it's been fine (I have an ulcer in my intestine) but I do take them 2 or 3 times a week just in case.

I take my other meds daily. I've altered my diet a bit, still eat everything but in smaller amounts.

I find ice cream helps...and also helps with a nausea.
I can’t miss a day as I’m in agony, but funnily enough I have ice lollies....
They work as well.

Where is your agony?
Burning burning pain in my chest/throat.
Oh that's horrible. Mine isn't too bad but it causes a pain in my chest (just at the top of the rib cage) I think I'd rather an ulcer to heartburn tbh because it's barelable. It's the side affects that cause me more issues.

Do you take B12? Omeprazole can make it hard for the body to absorb vitB. That's what the hospital told me.
No I don’t, and I didn’t know that,
You can buy it over the counter. Give it a try, very cheap in Tesco.

Lack of B12, VitD can cause weakness and nausea.
Ohhhh really?
Yep. The ones over the counter are not as strong as ones that can be prescribed but they won't do you any harm. I had a meds review with the chemist recently (at docs surgery) and she wants blood tests to see if I can buy over the counter instead....doesn't look likely at the moment.

Have you been for blood tests? How is your balance?
I haven’t been checked for ages re acid reflux. Last blood tests were for my underactive thyroid last month and they came back that I had to increase my daily meds as thyroid wasn’t working as well.
Do you have any joint pain?
Not really, just my back pain.
