Itchy Scalp
24 Answers
I use Nizoral shampoo, which is allegedly medicated, but I still get a few small spots on my scalp which turn itchy very quickly - the same day as shampooing sometimes.
I am a very clean person, scrupulous in my habits, but none of this helps!
Is there any sort of ointment I could rub into my scalp to stop this itching?

Your doc will prescribe a shampoo and a lotion but, as i wash my hair daily, i have found that alternate use of Vosene medicated and ordinary shampoo helps manage the problem so that it doesn't become all-encompassing.
Yes. Scurf is a type of fungus. I use Nizarol as a shampoo and after rinsing off I rub tea tree oil into my wet hair. Don't rub it on dry skin. You either like or hate the smell of tea tree oil in your hair. I like it. Wife doesn't. It does the job for me though. Also it stings like hell on open wounds and don't let it run into your eyes.
I can thoroughly recommend this "leave-in" scalp application - a bit pricey, but lasts a long time (I get it when it's "buy 1 and second at half-price at Boots)....

//17. Tea Tree Oil for Dry and Itchy Scalp
An itchy scalp can be annoying and embarrassing, and can also lead to hair loss. You don't even necessarily need to have dandruff to experience itchiness in your scalp. It can be caused by microbes, allergies and even skin conditions like scalp folliculitis, eczema and psoriasis.
How to use tea tree oil for dry and itchy scalp:
1.Add to your conditioner: Shampoo your hair with a mild shampoo. Follow up with adding 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to your conditioner. Mix well and massage into the scalp. Leave on for 5 minutes and wash off every time you condition your hair.
2. Itchy scalp massage oil: To soothe an itchy scalp, warm 2 tbsp. of coconut oil and add 4 drops of tea tree oil and 4 drops of peppermint oil, mixing well. Complimentary to tea tree oil's antiseptic properties, peppermint essential oil is not only highly stimulating for the follicles, but it has excellent anti-inflammatory properties and leaves a numb, tingly sensation to sooth itchiness.//

I don't use a dandruff shampoo but if I want a break from my usual shampoo I quite like Johnsons baby shampoo as something quite gentle.

Do you use the Nizoral for the itchiness or for actual dandruff? If you don't actually have dandruff, but just an itchy scalp, have you considered that it could be something like a food sensitivity? My scalp itches like mad if I eat gluten, and I get hair loss. When I stop eating gluten, the itchiness and hair loss go away.
Polytar, you need to ask at the pharmacy counter for it. I use it myself and I recommend it to many of my clients who all swear by it. There is nothing better!! https:/ /www.bo ots.com /polyta r-scalp -shampo o-coal- tar-sol ution-1 0020476
