She's diabetic, has ckd3, asthma, heart failure and previously bleeding ulcer, always constipated. Are there any meal replacement supplements I can get for her.

What about complan?
Frusemide?...she may need that for her heart failure , but not sure what that will do for her eating.

If her diabetes is under control, she is clearly short of breath and immobile, then she doesn't need much food.

I am not sure what you mean by "not eating properly," but i should leave her well alone.
Is she unhappy with what she eats? What do you mean by "not properly"?
Me too... diabetic, CKD3, heart failure, plus one leg gone (lost to ravages of alcohol), one eye blind (poor surgery), and other odd ailments too numerous to mention.

I eat what I want to, which in my case is probably too much.

So I agree that we need more details about what your mum does eat, and as Sqad says, it might be enough - for her!

Essentially, is her diet (or lack of it) making her ill?

BB
Bainbrig - do you mind asking me how you lost your leg due to alcohol?

I know two people who had amputations but I was too young to ask without sounding rude.
Bainbrig - how long ago did you lose the leg ? How old are you?
Alcoholism leads to peripheral neuropathy (loss of nerve feelings).
Broke my ankle, didn’t feel much pain, walked on for 6 months, *** my bones, amputated.

14 years ago, 2 years AFTER I’d gone teetotal. There’s irony, innit.

Mid-70s.

Hope that answers all!

Blimey BB, that's scary x
Well done on knocking the drink on the head BB...
Don’t want to take over Phleb’s thread, so I’ll start another about the demon drink int’ morning...

Please do BB,
(Seriously)!
Nailit I barely eat myself. I think partly die to having no sense of smell (which stimulates appetite). I can go two days without eating, which I know is bad. Everyone I know is shocked at how little I eat. I drink loads of milk and often make that up into build up shakes. It’s something I’m still working on as I don’t like being like this.
My mum lost her appetite while being treated for cancer. She was prescribed some kind of milky drink in various flavours. I can’t remember what they were called. Something like ‘Build-you-Up’.
Best to ask her GP or district nurse.
I think they were called Build Up Cloverjo. When I was ill and couldn't eat I was told to drink these.
Yes I think that’s what they are called.
That sounds right.
Check with her Diabetic nurse to see what they say.

What I mean by it eating properly is that she has refused to eat her food or meds for 3 weeks. She has now been admitted and is on a drip for dehydration and she's still refusing meds so they are trying syrup form or iv where they can. It's so bad, she is confused, disoriented and having hallucinations. They had to sedate her.
Oh Phleb, how difficult for you both - I hope they can at least do something to make her more stable.
Phleb if she hasnt been eating or drinking its no surprise she has been admitted, hopefully some after care when your mum is discharged will help.
