Can Aloe Vera Gel Cause Hair Loss?
1 Answers
Hi all
I am currently using aloe vera gel (as in the aloe extract in a tub, which apparently is 99% aloe vera) on my face to help with skin tone, fine lines etc.
Aloe Vera Gel is full of vitamins and minerals and is generally perceived to be good for the skin. However, there is evidence that consumption of too much Vitamin A and selenium can cause hair to shred, resulting in temporary hairloss. Both Vitamin A and Selenium can be found in Aloe Vera gel.
I would like to think the amount of Vitamin A present in Aloe Vera gel would be quite low, so there would not be any direct effect on hair loss if one uses Aloe Vera Gel as a face moisturiser or mask a few times a week.
I have struggled to find anything online that clearly states just how much Vitamin A is in Aloe Vera Gel. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I agree entirely with your above statement.
The only deleterious effect of Vitamin A on hair growth is an overdosed of said vitamin, however, I have no knowledge in empirical terms as what one would consider an overdose to be.
I doubt very much that the content of VitaminA in Aloe Vera is anything like what one might call.....an overdose.
