Aloe Vera Gel - That Would Come In A Bottle - Can Someone Describe What It 'should' Be Like Please?
6 Answers
ive bought some aloe vera gel online, (it says 100% natural on it) and its arrived but the label is 'home' printed, and frankly the gel looks and feels like basic lube!
it has no smell or colour whatsoever.
i thought it should have some slight smell when fresh, sort of sweet, everything else i own that has ever contained aloe vera has a smell - it may have been added of course but its usually the same overall smell
i want this gel for a burn and to minimise scarring - so obviously i cant just use it and hope for the best - i need to make sure its the real thing and working - short of buying an actual plant!
i may end up doing that - but for now i want to know if this is real, or some chancer blagging people!
thanks :)

thanks all,
i literally ordered some more from holland and barrett immediately after i posted this!
i didnt want to risk it, no matter what answers i got here.
i guess i just expected it to perhaps be slightly green tinged, have an aroma, and maybe even some evidence of 'matter' in it - evidence of it being a plants juices - this is totally glass clear.
but gel is gel i suppose.
ill use it for tonight.

Like APG I use the real thing from a plant on my kitchen windowsill. If you split the leaf the juice is a bit sticky in consistency (not unlike eggwhite), completely clear and odourless. I find it excellent for moisturising the face and reducing puffy eyes :-)
To be fair I wouldn't use a home produced bottle from the internet either.
