Metabolsim, in it's entirety provides warm blooded creatures such as you and (hopefully) me, the internal heat. Blood not only picks up this heat, but also, by circulation next to the skiand through the lungs, it cools the body. In the summer months, if you become overheated, you can assist the cooling off process by running cold water over the under side of the wrists where the blood comes close to the surface of the skin. By the way it only takes a red blood cell one minute to make the journey of the circulatory system and travels about 60 miles in its 4 month life cycle...
