Fell from half way down the stairs (care of my devil cat but that’s another story) and must have landed hard on my tailbone. Was in agony for a couple of days and then just very uncomfortable, couldn’t sit down properly. Pain seems to be not the coccyx (if I press on it), but the nearby surrounding areas.

It felt a bit better over the weekend after I started taking ibuprofen and have used ice packs every now and again. But now (over a week since it happened), I’ve gotten really uncomfortable again and still can’t sit properly on my bum. Had a bad sleep last night as kept waking up as was so uncomfortable with it.

Is there anything else I can be doing to help? I’m assuming it just takes time to heal, but it’s painful in the meantime!

Get rid of the cat!
I did the same as you many years ago, it wasn't a cat but polished stairs and slippery shoes. sadly it did take AGES to heal which isn't what you want to hear. What helped me was arranging cushions with a gap at the back where my tailbone was when I was sitting...you might buy a piece of upholstery foam and cut out a U shape? and using ibuprofen gel as often as allowed on the area where the pain was....If you can then sleeping on your side or your stomach can help but its hell when you fall asleep and roll over. I guess it took around a month for the pain to settle and about six months before it went completely....sorry. more info here, pretty much confirming my experience. They mention steroid injections in the text, but when I looked into this there didn't seem to be much good research evidence that they helped....I dunno, maybe the treatment has improved. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/tailbone-pain-coccydynia/
I did the same yesterday, nothing broken but bruised shoulder and hip, waiting for bruise to come out. Can only suggest Iforbrufen and paracetomol.
I damaged my cocxyx giving birth to 3rd child. It's a horrible ache. I was advised to buy doughnut shaped cushion which helped a lot. I remember trying to get off chair to stand up. Agony! So, strong painkillers and special cushion for a few weeks I'm afraid. All.the best.
I fell ice skating over 50 years ago and I hate to tell you but my cocxyx still give me trouble. I find that sitting on a straight chair can be painful and standing still or walking slowly are uncomfortable at times. My doctor gave me Naproxen which can be very good.
Maybe consider a visit to the GP if it is not improving?

You have given it plenty of time so I am sure they wont think you are wasting their time in any shape or form.

My wife did something similar, doctor gave her some prescription painkillers to get over the worse.
As Patsy suggests, a doughnut shaped cushion and painkillers should give you some relief. Hope pain subsides soon.

It’s a nightmare isn’t it? Last night I obviously rolled over a lot and the pain kept waking me up. Thought that might be the case Woofgang ☹️.
