Hi All, tried googling this but to no avail....

Assuming all other things are equal and I make no changes to my lifestyle will the common cold (no fever) reduce/increase my metabolic rate.

Thanks

Hi sweet G,assuming that the common cold is classed as an illness albeit not a serious one,the metabolic rate will increase much as it does in response to fear, exertion, stress etc. Once the cold disappears the metabolism should return to normal--whatever is normal for you. It is controlled by various hormones eg.Insulin, adrenalin, thyroid hormones and others all of which influence the rate at which chemical processes are carried out in body cells.
