Being so much in the news at the moment, it got me thinking of someone, I knew, of, who jumped in front of a vehicle on a busy A road, it didnt kill him but he was left with life changing injuries, now thankfully I have never had suicidle thoughts, and hopefully never do, I would be to scared to do it anyway, or do you think those thoughts of being scared would not even exist.

I assume they still exist but one's determination to end it all overrides them.
I think when you’re feeling bad enough to want to end your life fear doesn’t come into it.
The dread of staying alive another minute can be much stronger than the fear of dying. I don't think it's rational enough to always understand or explain.
I had thought that I would be too scared ...... an evening in April 2010 proved me wrong. After two bottles of red, some gin and 30 antidepressants I woke up. I will NEVER do it again. Not because of fear but I saw what it did to those close to me.
They used to record suicide 'while the balance of the mind was disturbed'. I think that sums it up, sadly.
Not always, roo... look at dignitas. We always assume people made the wrong decision, because it is awful. But for that person, who knows?
If I could just declare that I'm not included in that 'we' above regarding Dignitas please.

Thanks.
Sorry... it is often assumed...
The "we" was about suicide, rather than euthanasia... btw.
No worries, pixie, just for clarity.
Of course x I put it on a different line, but obviously didn't make it very clear.
Ex mechanic blew half his face off with a shotgun. He now lives with half a face. But still lives.
Sadly l still bear the scars on my wrists of an attempt .

I think that pretty much sums it up.

The need not to live is the issue, rather than the need to die, the two are very different, but it's impossible to understand unless you have actually been in that situation.

It renders logical abstract discussion, and indeed speculation, pointless because it is individual to each person, but the overriding need to change the situation is what drives the urge for death.

I remember clearly a discussion I had with a close friend over forty years ago, when we talked about suicide. He told me something which remains the most profound thing I have ever heard in my life, before or since, he said -

"Suicide is not about killing yourself, it's about killing the pain …" and that is the truest statement about it I have ever heard, or ever expect to hear.

Instantly, I understood the urge for violent death, such as your friend tried - it's about taking back control just one las time, of having a say in the way your mind is torturing you, and a final decisive means of dealing with it. You actually get chance to hit back at the pain, and destroy it, no going back.

Of course, your tragic friend - and others - have discovered that it may not actually pan out that way, but I sincerely believe that this was their intention at the time.

Sometimes, it's the same thing.

I think the mind in that state is sufficiently blurred to be acting purely on instinct, so the finer points of motivation are probably lost in the pure hell of still breathing in and out.

But yes, I think the desire to be done with it is what counts, and if one facilitates, the other, then death starts to look like a seriously attractive next move.

I have to repeat once again, because it is vital, the notion of it being 'selfish' and 'not thinking of loved ones left behind' is a thought process that is no longer capable of being considered.

We are now down to pure unimaginable, unbearable emotional agony, and the way to put an end to it - as quickly as possible.

It absolutely does, and it has informed every thought and every conversation I have had on the subject from that day to this.
The area that I live in has one of the highest rates of suicide for young men in the UK. There have also been several women and young girls over the past few years. Sadly the ages are getting younger .Since the beginning of December there was a 17years old girl, a 49years old man and a 13 years old boy.The method used by the boy and girl was to throw themselves off the nearby motorway bridge, not at the same time but weeks apart. The girl died but the boy landed on top of a truck and although seriously injured he survived.I can't begin to imagine the turmoil and torment that must have been going through their minds or what made them do it.They both attended the same High School .To make things worse pupils have to cross this bridge every day.
