can someone advise if they have taken this medicine for pain relief, if it was
helpful.
I have been prescribed it and will see how it goes, but am cautious as to it's
efficiency. does it interact with other meds. and do you need to take omeprazole with it.

JJ ended up in A&E after taking gabapentin, it caused all sorts of problems, including slurring, and a total loss of balance. won't be doing that in a hurry
Question Author
i wasn't drinking in case anyone mentions it......
I take tramadol for trigeminal neuralgia and thankfully I've had no problems with it. Not been hooked either, I only take it for short periods to help me cope and get a good night's sleep.
Question Author
won;t take it barry. i had a mate who couldn't get off it, and her life became a living nightmare.
//does it interact with other meds//

Is that relevant? Didn't you say you weren't taking any medication?
I know a wise old gentleman on AB who has been taking Tramadol for as long as I have known of him on here.He doesn't appear to be 'hooked' but a bit slow first thing in the crossword section. :-)

true naomi, in order to give myself a break i stopped all meds.
i discussed the matter in no uncertain terms with GP. He seemed surprised but this was my choice. but the pain of this is all encompassing, so perhaps i can take something to alleviate it.
Question Author
i am considering lots of pain relief options, if one doesn't work will try another. can't be doing with not sleeping, and being like this...
I thought I remembered you saying that.
Question Author
i have just taken a look at the prices for voltarol, comes in quite expensive, i know that shouldn't matter when you are in pain, will buy some and see if it helps the joint pain. if it doesn't then back to the drawing board.
Question Author
i did naomi, much to the chagrin of the doctors at large, but i can't be doing with being this reliant on some meds - diclofenac gel, prescribed naproxin i will take for a time, if no joy will ask to consider the more drastic option of surgery on my knees as that is where the significant pain is
Do you mean knee replacement surgery emmie ?
Just because a person you know had a bad experience with tramadol doesn’t mean you will, lots of people get along with it and it really helps them.
As for whether or not it interacts with any other meds, your doctor would surely have all the relevant info about you and would be the best person to advise you.
Question Author
yes Anne, i do mean surgery, my knees are basically knacked, and getting around is proving painful and sleep reducing. if surgery is another option then i would go for it. injections of steroids is another option. i have asked GP to refer me to pain management team.
see what happens.
My SIL had knee surgery about 5 weeks ago. She was walking the next day...back to driving last week. I'm not sure if she had both done. Oh, and she's 75-76.
Question Author
pasta, i confess surgery scares me, but would most certainly go for it.
If the x rays/scans show you need knee replacements then hopefully they should put you on the list.
pasta.....that was wasn't total knee replacement, which is the topic here.
Yes, I was prescribed it when the strongest Ibuprofen were no use for a knee pain, I swear by them! Apparently they can cause stomach problems as a side effect and I was prescribed something else for that though I never needed them.
I take Naproxen for a painful knee, emmie. It makes it bearable, but my dose has just been doubled after it more or less stopped working, and now take 500 mg twice a day.
It would be nice to have a proper diagnosis, but neither my previous surgery nor my current one, gives enough of a toss to try and find out what is actually wrong.
Yes, you also have to take Lansoprazole.

You have my full sympathy. Hope you get some relief soon.
