I wonder how long they’ll be part of our lives for?

Months? Years?

Wonder what it’s doing to the environment ? Most of the blue disposable ones have plastic in them

As long as hamsters need hammocks.
Those blue disposable ones are being thrown away all over the place. Goodness knows what sort of mindset it is that thinks it's acceptable to just discard them by throwing them to the ground - idiots !
I agree shirley, the amount lying around means masses of people are just chucking them to the ground without a care. It's absolutely disgraceful, words fail me really.
I live near a river too, I often see them floating on that which will obviously affect the wildlife in the river. Some people are thick, really !!

I'd far rather the plastic warriors turned their attentions to the piles of rubbish currently being toted around for Halloween. The stores are full of cheap plastic tat in the form of masks, tridents, plastic pumpkins and all sorts of paraphernalia that, if it's used at all, will be used for a couple of hours tomorrow and then dumped. I can't have a plastic bag to put my loose vegetables in when I buy them from Tesco's but all this rubbish can be sold and dumped almost immediately.

Too true NJ!
Must admit I’ve not seen any thrown away inappropriately.
I think they’ll be with us for a long time yet to be honest.

Only if significant numbers continue to wear them.
history shows that legislation introduced allegedly for the collective public good persists long after its reason for being has ended - the pub opening hours section of the Defence of the Realm Act of 1914 took more than 70 years to be repealed.

Expect to be still wearing your mask in 2025.
When disposing of the masks, the ear elastic should be cut so wildlife doesn't get tangled in it. I saw a photo of a duck with a mask hanging round its neck
Some supermarkets (I seen it at Morrisons) are handing them out free of charge. Am sure many people take them even if they have there own mask and am sure some then just disguard them in the car park
roo - do you really think the idiots who just throw them away will cut the elastic first ? Doubt it very much ...

Too that is awful! yes that's the sort of thing I'm talking about!

Roo* not too!
I've been in a hospital today, sitting in the reception area, the masks are free and a bin ready for them when you leave. But did spot one person picking up a pocketful outrageous imo.
