News to me. Good. It's been quite a problem to buy in my area. Enough to see us through the winter. There must quite a few on here who'll be entitled to it. Had anyone heard about it?
I find it rather strange that UK doctors will write prescriptions for OTC medicinals. Here, in Ontario, they will only do so for people on Welfare Benefits, and the patient has to prove that they are receiving said benefits.
Mamya I know it happens and yes I have mentioned it before and I think I posted a link which said doctors were being encouraged not to write prescriptions for OTC medication presumably as it isn't a good use of NHS funds. Anyway, no matter, it is what it is.
The thing is it costs the health centres more than if bought over the counter. At our health centre they will only put OTC medication on repeat prescriptions if they are essential medications. In my case I cannot cope without Paracetamol. At the beginning of Covid I went to buy some but they would only sell me one packet of 32 because people had emptied the shelves.

sanmac I can answer that through what I've seen on here and no it isn't just for people on benefits unless they prefer not to tell us of course. I don't think all doctors do it though I can't be sure.
My own circumstances Sanmac that I have posted on this thread, regarding paracetamol for my chronic pain which disappeared of the shelves at the beginning of Covid as people panicked. It's a drug I rely on for chronic pain. It's the only painkiller I can take safely and essential. Before Covid I was buying it.
Thanks, LB. Okay, Apc, now I understand: the medicine is in short supply, or non existent OTC, but the NHS can still supply it with your doctor's prescription.
Fatty fish, like tuna, mackerel, and salmon
Foods fortified with vitamin D, like some dairy products, orange juice, soy milk, and cereals
Beef liver
Cheese
Egg yolks
To get vitamin D from food, fish is a good option. Three ounces of cooked salmon has about 570 international units (IU).
So glad that it will be issued to those vulnerable.
Husb has been on vit d daily for about 2.5 years...to boost immunity as there is some (albeit anecdotal) evidence that suggests it’s may help stop relapse of leukaemia.... he’s still in remission thank God and amazing nhs
I have 200 paracetamol on my repeat prescription list simply because when I need it, for a flare up of a medical condition, I’d have to go to the shops three times a week to get sufficient to keep me going.
I don’t ask for it on every repeat, only when I need it.
I could get Gaviscon on prescription but I’ve never asked for it, it’s something I’m more than happy to buy. I’d also buy paracetamol if I could buy it in a larger quantity.
We’re going to get some Vit D online, hopefully.
