I've got a small swelling on my right cheek from the gland behind my ear , a little painful when I'm eating , a feeling of neuralgia, this is from Satur , today I phoned my GP AT 10am, got a call back from a nurse practitioner who asked me a few questions and told me to carry on taking Paracetamol, then a half an hour later another call saying I'd best go in tomorrow for her to look in my ear, fair enough but where's my doctor gone :0(

The practice was eerily quiet Barsel , usually you see a doctor flitting back and forward but nothing
my niece who is a nurse can prescribe meds,

I'm still bemused if it is mumps, how did it get me? I've never been out, thanks Barsel :0)
I always thought mumps was a children's illness, is it contagious? No kissing Mr B under the mistletoe. :-) x
so did i, perhaps not. Bit early for mistletoe..
Question Author
Very contagious apparently Barsel
Nurse: Do you live alone
Me: No
Nurse: then you must tell your husband if he shows any signs of a swollen neck to phone us , it's very contagious
Question Author
I'm seriously hoping it's just blocked saliva glands and the antibiotics kick in and do their job
emmie, it's never too early for mistletoe. I carry some around with me all the time, just on the off chance. :-)
Bobbs, if you don't feel any better in a few days, get the doctor out.If it's infectious, you can't really go back to the surgery and you want to get sorted before Christmas.Take care. x
Bobbi, mumps is not just very contagious it can be nasty for adult blokes so I hope its not. In the days before mumps vacs, it was considered important for boys to get it pre puberty.
Question Author
Thank you, I'm sure I'll be right as rain soon :0))
Question Author
Yes woof I remember that , could it render a male impotent?
NHS says it CAN reduce sperm count. Commonly its just very unpleasant.

Let's hope it's the lesser of two evils then, thanks all
Hope so - at least you are not a pre-pubescent boy!

Re: original question. Our GP moved away in June and a new chap has been appointed - but we've never seen him ... and the reverse applies of course. OH has quite complicated medication, mainly for his heart, and fluid was giving cause for concern so his (wonderful and competent) nurse, who is trying to heal a leg ulcer, asked the new chap (whose name I don't even know) and OH's medication was changed. It seems to be working so far, but we're not very happy about someone who we have never even seen (and vice versa) dealing with complex ailments.

Get well soon, Bobbi. How on earth did you catch mumps with all the mask-wearing, hand-gelling and so on?
