Not sure what to do.
Been on these for a little while now due to depression.
Slowing me down, but doing little for the depression itself.
Don't know if its a medical thing, or just overload with everything I've had to cope with lately.
Last time I spoke to my GP in a phone consultation he was trying to be helpful but simply wasn't.
I know the poor doctors are snowed under with Covid cases, but where am I to turn?
I spend most days in bed and find switching off easier there.
Good old Answerbank today, decided to try and get a bit involved.
At least it takes my mind off stuff for a while.

Yes I'll ring them Monday, but I would li!e to be able to politely suggest something to him before I get shrugged off.
Suggest it to him then.
Sorry to hear about your fur baby. Be sure to mention her passing to your doc. Loosing one can play a big part in how you are feeling. Might need something extra at this time. Ask if you should change the dosage or try something in combination and slowly switch to a different pill. Hope the New Year is better for you and all goes well with your son

Thank you.
Mirtazzies helped me immensely when I was in the funny farm a few years ago, other anti depressants did jack. You might have to try a few to get one that suits you.
Clinical depression can be a killer that some people just don't understand. Wish you well.
I was switched to mirtazipine a few months ago, it's been strange, rather than the dulling effects of the other SSRIs and although the grey bleakness of my worst days seem controlled I seem to be "feeling" more. I find I am crying a lot, but also smiling and laughing. I can cope with this but if I wanted calm stability I'd be asking for a change.
I've heard of people taking Mirtazapine at night and a different one in the day to give them more of a lift.
Question Author
Yes the crying. A sudden overflow of emotion.
I feel overwhelmed that I can't cope. Then it passes and then comes back. I hide myself away in bed all day which is where I am now.
When next you contact GP mention all that is going on and how the new drug has affected your moods too, could be that the dose needs altering or something different altogether.

Thank you Mamya. What I have had to cope with has driven me over the edge.
I can't function.
Came on AB this morning to say hello etc.
Felt distracted and better for it.
But then the guilt kicks in.
Hard to explain, like I have no right to be here.
I've had so so many things to deal with.
Its all unreal.
wish i could be of some help theland, but i can't just now. I wish you better...
I empathise with you Theland. Been there, done that etc. Its a nightmare beyond description when ur going through REAL depression (as opposed to feeling a 'bit down')
Hang in there, try another med, try anything but just hang in there.
If you want to chat away from AB I can give you my 'throwaway' email.
(And I'll even promise not to mention religion ;-) )

Ah yes, I miss lift!e Bonny.
Sounds like mirtazipine isn't suiting you, it is one of the best for older people though. With all that has happened in your life, and losing your kitty too, being overwhelmed is a normal natural emotion and might be appropriate right now. Feeling sad and emotional isn't necessarily a sign you are depressed, flattening of emotion definitely is. Why not allow yourself a week or so to feel whatever needs feeling. Accept you have a right to be sad, lonely, or whatever and see how you are this time next week. I had a terrible christmas and new year, cried, punched pillows, stated at Dave's picture and realised I was so bloody angry at my rubbish luck with partners. Still tearful now but I had put on my 'surviving face' so long I had got stuck. Yet I feel so much better than four months ago when I hit crisis
point, Its been so long on medication that levelled me off (7 years since the change before ) I had forgotten what human feels like.
Sorry you’re struggling. It might be that they need to try a diff medication? I’ve been on them all over the years. Just cos a drug works for one person doesn’t mean it will work for another x I’m currently on venlafaxine
