people are surviving different variants, the south african one, so whats to say that the Indian one will be any different. And no one i think, including the PM will want another lockdown.
Bluemoon//But we aren't vaccinated against the Indian variant,//
Is that official or are you just guessing?
To the question about whether current vaccines work against the local strains, the answer at the moment is "we don't know, although probably vaccines are still reasonably effective."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineage_B.1.617
god forbid that a variant turns up for which the present vaccines are ineffective . . .
Well dannyk13 a government minister said that there is no proof that the vaccine wont work against the Indian variant, so we'll just have to wait and see if people start dying to know how effective it is.
Bluemoon, So far I have not read that the Indian variant has been found in the UK.
Or we could give the patents to 3rd World countries to test their efficacy.
haven't cases been reported in leicester?
Alternatively we could all stop worrying about dying and just enjoy what little time we have on this earth, virus or no virus.
Indian variant cases have been found in Leicester, and no doubt will turn up very soon in other places with large Asian populations.

that could put places here on Red alert, as London has a large Asian population.
Planes from India to Heathrow this morning.

Were they carrying passengers though or just freight or returning emty from dropping off supplies tambo?
Brit Boing 777 - dont think that would be for freight
// So far I have not read that the Indian variant has been found in the UK.//

400 cases as of a day or so ago - but we know much more than others because the Brits have done half a million genome analyses. 50% of the total world

Prof gave an opinion a few days ago - one of the mutations affects the binding site - and so they wish to find out how much - that is does it spread more ( infect more people) and in a lower dose and does it cause severe disease ( no in vaccinted cases)

JVT - the govt Viet who looks like a wrestler or rugby player said the sera of vaccinated people still neutralised but they would have to wait nd see ( what happened in real life)
