Salt Tablets - Are They Literally 'Just' Salt?
25 Answers
as above
are they literally just a tiny amount of salt, shaped into a tablet or in a capsule. or are they something more? made differently?
and are they better than just consuming normal granulated salt?
thanks

Hooray - normal AB thread salt as in NaCl - that comes out of a salt cellar you dont need.... clopidogrel or rivaroxaban which are not salt are prescription only and are something else you may need them and lots of other drugs your doctor prescribes depending on what's up with you

they 're not prescription only
AND - you dont need them
in fact you dont need added salt from a salt cellar
and as a tablet you just clunk a pile of powder and it holds together rather than add a holder-together ( excipient ) which give a pill (which is rolled )
I was asked in an exam once (difference between a pill and a tablet) - and the examiner tacked on - "you dont know the difference!" in triumph ( see above)
and I said in wonder: "I dont know the difference?" - ( it was an exam see where the examiner asks the questions and the candidate answers and not the other way round) 1973
and instead of saying "OK what then?" he passed seamlessly onto McShpraddle's disease or something which he was determined I didnt know.
didnt get that one - - - but good training for AB fifty years later
and gives you an early insight into the importance of exams

Salt tablets are just salt (NaCl) and salt on the table isn't.
I cannot see any reason for taking salt tablets except for a very rare condition called Addison's Disease.
Dehydration, sweating etc, one needs water, not salt which if taken will make your condition worse.
However in extreme dehdration, you might ,just might start to lose salt and require it either by mouth or intravenous infusion.
Of course in extreme cases of dehdration e,g ulcerative colitis, dysentery and other conditions of the GI tract you will lose salt and need replacement by intravenous infusion.
PP is correct, the healthy person doesn't need added salt.
Added salt is BAD for you.
