Shoulder Surgery Needed?
17 Answers
Hi, all. I have been having a mad shoulder problem this last few years. I even did nothing with them the last 6 months but i struggle to lift my arm sideways even to pick up a tea bag. The pain is like a tooth ache when you need root canal along with a burning sensation at like biting points. I am in good shape so i should not be having this problem. Should i be requesting an mri for possible surgery

I had shoulder pain& severely restricted movement last year during lockdown. GP (by telephone) said it wasn't a "frozen shoulder" and referred me for physio advice. I did some exercises they gave me but got no improvement.
Eventually I went private (£400) for ultrasound & steroid injections. It WAS a frozen shoulder. The injections freed it up and I now have full movement & only slight occasional pain. £400 well spent!
GP said they no longer refer patients for steroid injections on the NHS. Don't know if that's true.

I have in total had this shoulder problem for around 13 years. Just that it has been getting worse over time. I don't know about the uk system but over here in ireland. They told me i had a bruised knee after i snapped it. Only when it never got better did they give me an mri turned out i needed a knee reconstruction so my trust on them a little low
//The NHS still provides steroid injections for frozen shoulder where appropriate. I don't know why you were told differently, davebro//
As I said I don't if it's true but that's what they told me. Even without an examination she said it wasn't a frozen shoulder - some kind on telepathy I guess! I think the suggestion was that they skip the injections & go direct to manipulation under anaesthetic but as we were in the throes of "saving the NHS" I opted for the private route.
