Itchy Flakey Ears

for the past week or two, the inside of both my ears (the bit you can’t see but can put your little finger in) have been very itchy, and when I do put my little finger in to ease the itch, it comes out with a few white flakes on.
I’ve been using olive oil but it doesn’t seem to be helping.
Any ideas?

I’ve just used one. The sky didn’t fall in, nor did I pierce my eardrum.
I’ve been using one to put the olive oil in for two weeks too...not shoving it right inside as hard as I can but just far enough, and very gently, to reach the itch.

These cotton buds are very good, bought for my OH who is terrible for poking about in his ears
