Have any of you ever had it?? How serious? And how ill were you with it? Best ways to heal recovery? Ive been quite ill with it, in hospital, and just looking for advice on healing. I’ve been told avoid foods high in fat, and alcohol, obviously, but anything else?? TIA xx

Nothing else to say, as you have summed it up in your OP.

Hi Sqad,Thankyou. I’ve been told that egg yolks are particularly bad. Do you agree?
Question Author
I was just an in patient, and then rapidly discharged as they needed the bed urgently and so I didn’t get to ask a lot of what I wanted to, and have been replying online. And you of course.
No, not really.....depends upon how often you eat them.
They do contain fat, so go easy on them.

I knew someone who had pancreatitis. Long haul airline crew. I think it was caused by booze so he never drank again (obviously) Due to the constraints of the job he couldn't pick and choose what he ate. You just need to look after yourself, keep hydrated and eat sensibly.

Thankyou guys. Not quite sure what caused it . I don’t drink spirits, only wine, but my appetite has severely dropped in last year or so, and I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. Never want to see a glass of wine again in my entire life! Wouldn’t wish the pain of this on anybody.
Wine is as bad as spirits if you drink enough. Alcohol is alcohol regardless of the drink. (not that I am implying that is the situation in your case)
Question Author
No I know you’re not, but lack of food certainly hasn’t helped.
My friend's husband had pancreatitis all the time and whilst their relationship was volatile - when he had an attack of the pancreatitis - her heart went to him as he suffered so much pain.

Again he was an alcoholic but he couldn't give it up right up to the end of his life. I know Smow - not much advice but I know from her saying - it is extremely painful and so I feel for you.
Question Author
Hi 1ozzy. That’s really useful - Thanku. I know you’re not saying I’m an alcoholic, but what with losing 4 stone, my evening wine after 6pm (don’t ask me why 6pm lol) was just too much I’m guessing for my much reduced size, and lack of appetite. Lack of appetite faded as my sense of smell did, so I lost a lot of interest in food. If it wasn’t this (evening wine) then it certainly didn’t help. Some people are clearly more prone to it, but I can say hand on heart that I would rather give birth then go through that pain again - I was lite4ally curled up on the landing at the top of our stairs sobbing for help. The paramedics had to use gas and air to even attempt to move me. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
Fingers crossed you'll get the pancreatitis under control.
Question Author
And Jenny, Thankyou. It’s hard to describe the pain - never ever want to go thru it again.

This advice says plain scrambled, poached or boiled eggs are ok.

Hope you might get some more dietary advice via your GP.
Question Author
Thank Choux, think I might. I’ve been eating scrambled eggs, but then today read that egg yolks are high in fat, and that I should be trying to avoid fat, yet I thought those would be fine.
i have had it and was ill for months. THe initial diagnosis came when i got out of hours doctors to visit and he called an ambulance immediately, and was rushed to hospital. He diagnosed pancreatitis, and the hospital eventually found me a bed. I had to wait to have the op to take out the gall bladder because i caught an infection whilst in hospital, but once done, the pain really kicked in, i had key hole surgery and stayed for 7 days in hospital. I was told by a nurse to move and stand shortly after the op, which was bloody painful.
afterwards when discharged from hospital i spent many many weeks recuperating, couldn't get shopping, or go out. avoided alcohol and didn't eat much so lost some weight. Not sure what else but the months it took to feel right was miserable. I suggest you follow doctors orders where possible and not to do any heavy lifting at all.
let others help you in any way they can. I was unlucky as live alone, but friends rallied round and helped, and i got on line shopping, which was a god send.
i hope you feel better soon smow, i wouldn't wish it on anyone.
