Saw GP yesterday about my painful arthritic knee and he prescribed Butec patches, 5 microgram to start and leave on for a week, then 10 microgram for the following weeks.
Can anyone tell me how long it takes before you feel some pain relief please?

at least a day
but when you swap them over, it wonttake a day again
ps you can still take other pain killers such as paracetamol if you need to
I agree with bednobs.......if they haven't relieved your pain after 2 days, then they won't be effective at that dose.

GP said leave 5 microgram on for 7 days before changing to 10 microgram.
Are you saying I can change after 2 days if there is no difference in the level of pain?
Well I would Barsel.
Do what your GP says.
Question Author
I'll leave it until Monday and if the pain is no better, will contact him.
Thanks bednobs and Sqad.
sadly, there's not many painkillers that specifically target arthritis pain can you take nsaids?(i think you have RA don't you?)
hey barsel, how is it going?

Hi bednobs, the patch has made no difference at all, so although my GP said change it after 7 days, I've decided to change it today for the stronger strength one, but the pain is so bad now, I dread going to bed as I just can't get that leg comfy so it isn't hurting and as soon as I move, the pain makes me cry out.
Seriously thinking now that I should have the knee replacement that was offered to me a year ago.
Will see how I go on with the stronger patch first.
Thanks for asking x

Just saw your other question.
Yes I have Rheumo and osteo but most tablets give me stomach pain, so the treatment I have for the Rheumo is an infusion called Rituximab, but haven't been able to get that for over 2 years due to the Covid.
it might be worthwhile tackling it from the other end - protecting your tummy first? you may well have been thru all that already of course. It sounds to me like you need to get onto your Rheum nurse and find out what's happening about further infusions

Bednobs, I find it quicker and easier to contact the secretary's of the consultants I want to see.
I'm waiting for an operation on my hands, so I phoned the sec this morning and she is going to squeeze me in to see him again face to face so he can see how they have deteriorated and I'm also going to phone the orthopaedic sec to say I would like to go back on the list for a knee replacement.
I'm still waiting for the results of an Dexa scan I had in April of last year from the Rheumo specialist nurse, and I've asked her 3 times now.
